Walding & Sons ‘Ladies in the Night’ Charity Walk

June 27th, 2013

A team of four Lodge Brothers personnel and six friends and relatives, recently took part in a midnight charity walk to raise money for Michael Sobell Hospice in Northwood.

The Hospice focuses on improving quality of life for patients, by providing relief from pain and distressing symptoms. Patients may be admitted for symptom management, rehabilitation, respite care at any time, or care in the last few days of their life.

The hospice has to raise £1.2 million every year for running costs alone, and the ‘Ladies in the Night’ walk has become one of their biggest money raisers.

This year, there were over 500 walkers, raising in the region of £80,000.

The walk consists of either a five and a half or nine mile walk which starts at 10pm and goes through Northwood, Northwood Hills and Moor Park, ending at the hospice for a well-deserved breakfast.

Fancy dress is always encouraged and lots of pink is usually the order of the day, with tutus, flashing headbands and sashes. Many people walk in memory of a loved one, with names written on the back of their T-shirt.
